How-to Suppress Internet Speech
Here's a round-up of a crackdown on two reformist websites in Iran. It reads as a how-to suppress political speech on the internet:
- Order the Telecoms to filter the sites
- If the technology fails you, arrest some technicians of the ISP hosting the sites
- Go closer to the source and arrest journalists associated with the sites
- Increase the fear by arresting the father of a formerly detained blogger, who fled to the Netherlands, from where he operates a website. The message of the Iranian authorities is clear: "We will get to you through your loved ones. We will get to anyone, anywhere. The internet is global, so are we..."
